It’s that time of year again!  Pumpkin spice lattes abound as the leaves are beginning to change color and the temperatures start to fall.  Not only that, but now it seems that pumpkin spice has made its way into our cookies, oatmeal, muffins and now, even our bagels!  Will the possibilities ever end?

Probably not, but pumpkin certainly has its place and its benefits!  This bright orange, bulky gourd is chock full of benefits for us – many of which apply to our skin!  Some of those benefits include:

  • High levels of Vitamins A and C – these help soften the skin and boost collagen production to ward off signs of aging
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) – these enzymes promote cell turnover and in turn brighten the skin while smoothing it
  • High levels of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E – not only is Vitamin E an anti-oxidant, but these two components help protect the skin by maintaining its barrier function while controlling sebum (oil) production
  • Zinc – the levels of zinc found in pumpkin and its seeds will also contribute to controlling oil production as well as hormone levels in addition to aid in healing the skin
  • Molecular Structure – the small molecular structure of pumpkin allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin with greater ease and assist in the treatment of a dull complexion

The list goes on a lot longer, but just these amazing benefits makes me want to slather pumpkin on my skin every day!

Ok, maybe not just straight up pumpkin – I’ll save that for my soup.  But I’ll certainly reach for my pumpkin soap a whole lot more often!
